What is the registry?

Registry is an important database in Microsoft Windows, which is used to store the setup information of system and application. As early as Windows 3.0 launched OLE technology, the registry has appeared. The subsequent Windows NT was the first operating system to make extensive use of registries at the system level. However, from the beginning of Microsoft Windows 95 operating system, the registry has really become the content that Windows users often contact, and continues to be used in subsequent operating systems to this day.
That is to say, the registry is a comprehensive database of windows. Comparing with Linux, the software and hardware configurations of windows and other databases are placed in the registry, which is a large "database", while Linux is decentralized.

What's the use of the registry?

Registry is a core database in Windows operating system, which stores various parameters, directly controls the start of windows, the loading of hardware drivers and the running of some windows applications, thus playing a central role in the whole system.
